rekindle  your  motivation  to  succeed  when  it  all  just feels  kinda  pointless

The Turning Point = a moment in time that you can look back on when your view of a situation changed irreversibly and lead to a better life.

So many graduate students hit a wall in their research because it no longer connects with the dream they had when they started. I am consistently good at helping scientists find that spark again, and develop into the future with the new knowledge of their domain and discipline. I take people who are almost ready to give up, and get them excited about finishing up their studies so that they can engage in the bigger work of their life.

This is a targeted coaching process. Two video conferencing calls where we create new perspectives and opportunities using coaching techniques and evidence-based psychotherapy training (ACT). Accountability and email exchanges to support this process over a period of three months from first signing.

This is the landing page for student recovery support coaching

  1. Symptoms and Cravings - pain points
    1. credibility in resolving these:
      1. personal struggles faced and overcome that relate
      2. how I came to learn what I am sharing
      3. all of the things that didn't work before discovering what I'm offering here
      4. what it meant, in tangible/results/feelings/ways, when it did work
    2. the struggles I witnessed in others, and how that felt
  2. Point of View - how I solve the problem and why
    1. Core premise
    2. Perspective
    3. Philosophy
  3. the Offer - spell it out, who/what/when/where/how
  4. Who's it for? the right people will say yes, or nod along
    1. What would be true and only true if this were a perfect fit for them?
  5. Who's it NOT for? - filter out those who are on a different part of the journey
    1. Results and success are consistently achievable when ___
    2. Not worth the struggle for either of us if you haven't already resolved ____
    3. It works for others and not just people who are me, but only if ___
  6. Visualize the process - paint a story picture of what engaging in the process is actually going to look and feel like
  7. Reasons to buy now - reminders of the positive outcomes. communication of the value of the offer that should be a clear value greater than the price = good value for money, not cheap, but definitely worth it.
    1. core features
    2. benefits
    3. what the results look like in life
    4. limits on spaces or window, disclosure of any other restrictions to consider, promo, etc
    5. what are very real and compelling reasons for someone who is a good fit to not hesitate and should buy now?
  8. Contextualize the price - help them to see the value they're getting for the money
    1. simulations of time, income loss/gained.
    2. relative price comparisons.
      1. the market rate. competitors.
        1. better value, more expertise. unique value proposition
      2. why cheap solutions are inadequate. a Udemy course? not the same value, that's for DIY that don't need the support. if they really want that, then eventually you should craft an offer for them so they can have your approach, but not the same amount of in-person hours invested
      3. group vs solo/personalized/custom coaching
      4. past prices. actual costs.
      5. why you set your pricing like this: maybe it's cheaper because you believe in the market segment, prove it.
  9. Bonuses - additional offers or deals to reduce the risk, increase the value of the offer
    1. early bird, adopter = updates
    2. lifetime subscription. future content
    3. discounted coaching rates forever? haha not wise, but for at least 2 years after or something.
    4. get packages of other content for cheaper: the upsale.
      1. if you like my other projects for some reason
  10. Lower the Wall of Risk - name and address them. how can I offload the risk from the clients to me. confidence and professionalism.
    1. will this be worth my time/money?
    2. what it if breaks or doesn't work?
    3. What if it makes things worse?
    4. What are others going to think if they know?
  11. Call to Action - how to order, make it easy for them
    1. clear steps, make it explicit what will happen, where they can expect to see the emails or results.
    2. consider an "Are you sure" page
  12. Downsell - if it's not a fit, but they still connect and want your help, what are the other options?
    1. different levels of the product funnel.
      1. retreat/workshop > homestudy video course > ebook.
      2. personal coaching > mentorship group > short group with Q&A not all the coaching
    2. multi-page choose your own sales adventure. diagnosis and sales funnel all in one.
  13. the PS: final reminder of the most important points of why they might want to sign up now.

For those who
  • trying to finish their thesis
  • preparing for an exam
  • want things to be different this time
  • want to change their actions to accomplish something that has been difficult.

It might be for you:
If you know that you could do it,
but are looking for some extra support
to be more sure that that happens.

So what does a coaching relationship look like?
  • I believe in the best of you and help you to do what you want to
  • I'm a co-strategist. Knowing what you want, we look for the most fulfilling ways to achieve something, and find habits & actions to be taken in the short term which will increase the probability of that outcome.
  • I'm a friend. I do my best to care about you as much as any you welcome into your world. We will talk about deep stuff and are committed to trust.

Themes
Science!
For scientists, by scientists. For people who need evidence backed techniques and arguments up from first principles. For those people who want to understand why rather than having a coach just goad them into performance.

For extra service and support
Relative to achievement coaches, I offer more psychological support and instruction. I will transmit to you the best practices available from the literature and help you to implement them as tactical skills for the rest of your life.

More for : consistent email support, availability for calls in between sessions, follow ups for months afterwards to ensure that you're still doing well

Certainly the only transpersonal academic coach - meaning those who are also into the spiritual philosophy and the downstream theories of the hippie era. Looking for the irrational yet functional rules in the western interpretations of ancient wisdom. If you value the expansion of your mind even if it's by weird methods.

For those who are undergoing a shift, and looking for awakening and wanting to leverage the latest scientific understandings of enlightenment.
IE if you like Tara Brach, esoteric Buddhism, Ram Dass, Ken Wilber or non-duality but still want to kick ass in your career and save the world - look no further.

quick and effective. rapid, lasting transformation from longterm blockages

drawing from psychotherapy techniques, neuroscience, education psychology

You're smart, you know how to learn well, track down the basics and you have access to the scientific literature to understand the underlying principles. There's no reason that you couldn't learn all of the fundamentals on your own. But the question is, aren't you tired of being alone? Would you rather learn it quicker than an independent research dive? You know how long it takes to get up to speed on a topic, and you've seen the difference between courses which provide a structured approach to the knowledge and your own independent quest for unguided synthesis of new understandings. Do you really have time to do all of this learning on your own? Or is it worth it to you that someone with experience takes you through it all faster. And then there's the benefits of a teacher and mentor who's experience that you can learn from, mistakes that you can avoid. Some corners can be cut, and some of the hard parts you might avoid are absolutely necessary. With experiments you can learn these through your own experience, but circumventing dead ends and being wise with your time is of value. The question then becomes not if it is valuable, but if it is: a) relevant to your needs, b) something that you are willing to invest in.

Hello!
My name is R.Aaron Ball and I'm an ecological researcher who grew up on science fiction and thus doggedly believes in the best possible future. I also organize events in the transformational dance community and play as a techno musician and DJ.

If you worry about where your actions will take you if you don't do something about them, I can help. I work with people to overcome procrastination and be more productive. Specifically I'm looking for those people who are ready to take inspired action and want accountability towards their greatest vision.

Benefits/results:

Develop intrinsic motivation to overcome the challenges in a degree. Learn tools to reduce stress and procrastination. Maintain or recreate your passion for making a difference in the world that got you into science.
• Why me: evidence-based. I've been there myself in mental health, and supporting other graduate students. This will help me to develop my skills so that I can benefit others the most over time. Already working with many coaching clients, but want to work with BGSA members for free because it's who I care most about, and can connect with. A former BGSA member, working as a research assistant and lab manager for Marty Lechowicz for 3 years.

My life completely fell apart from a combination of: existential doubt, academic stresses and a doomed-feeling planet. After 3 major depression episodes I did the massive emotional work of putting my life back together.

I'm now a successful entrepreneur, just had another scientific paper published, and coach others using all of my personal experiences and evidence-based tools. I continually strive towards self-realization.

By the end of which you will have :
- more clarity surrounding your goals and motivations
- 1+ concrete habit change techniques to help you in your process

No risk to you, bet option: You want success but don't want to be out on cash if you're worried that you cannot pull through, either because of self-confidence or unknown circumstances beyond your control?
I get it, grad school is a risky time. You're at the end of your stipend, you're living on lentils, and you can't afford expensive support when you need it the most. I know exactly what that feels like. I got REALLY good at being poor for a while there, and it sucks. But when you get onto the next job, it makes it worth it. But, the risk of money is way higher when you've got less. But at least your schedule is flexible. So if you can leverage that now, the earning later will compensate.

So here's the other option, which might be foolish for me to trust so much in people not taking advantage of me:

You pay half up front as a deposit, and then we agree on what is a reasonable goal for 6 months down the road. We do the coaching as normal. If you, for any reason, don't hit that goal. I give you your money back. If you do make it, and I'm betting on your success, then you pay me double the rest.
EG. you're so down and out that you don't think you'll ever get a job. 6 months later, you do, and it's fine to pay because you're ecstatic with the job you found. But if you're still in a rough place, then you get that cash back to help you out. And I'm not gonna fight with you about the details. There's a contract we'll sign to make it official, but neither of us should spend the time fighting in court over that amount of money.

But, the lack of belief in one's self that still leads to a turn around really happens.

This really happens. I coached a physicist who was fully convinced he was a failure because he wasn't going to be competitive for a post-doc, and instead he unded up finding a position for the space agency. He went from a mess of self-loathing and dragging his feet, to elated at a position that was better than he had dreamed.
